Greetings From Bawlmer, Hon

I got to celebrate the holidays Hampden style this weekend. The brief whirlwind tour of Baltimore was short and sweet but i got to spend some time with my little buddy Julia and all the girls. One cannot truly experience Baltimore during the holidays without stopping at Hampden's 34th street to check out all the lights and true Bawlmer spirit, hon.

Happy Hanukkah

Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season. The Latke Master was in the kitchen last night latke-ing up a storm. Tomorrow I head back to Baltimore to see my friends and family. I'm so excited! I hear there will even be some snow waiting for me. It's only been about 5 years since i've seen it!

Welcome to Wine Country

We spent a beautiful autumn afternoon in Amador wine country. The scenery is breathtaking in the foothills this time of year. We sampled wines from 5 vineyards before calling it a day. It's pretty hard to go beyond that unless your spitting, but who wastes good wine?. It's only 38 miles from Sacramento which makes it the perfect day trip. Our favorite was TKC vineyards because the proud owner herself was there to pour the samples and tell us the stories behind the delicious wines. Our friend Peter, the Biologist, was amazed by her fruit fly collection. I, however, was amazed by the 2004 Zinfandel.

Another Reason to Pick Up an Extra Shift

It's that time of year again that make up addicts (like myself)
start stock-piling cosmetics during Sephora's friends & family
discount days. For instance, this lovely Urban Decay palette
will be joining my product collection 20% off of retail price.
Just enter FF2007 as the promo code and you'll receive 20%
off your entire order until November 21st.

As my husband says, "It's like they're
paying you". That's why i went into work yesterday at 4 am
and worked until 7pm. The make up made me do it.

Happy Halloween!

The Frizner girls were working out 80's style this Halloween. I entered us in American Apparel's Halloween costume contest for a chance to win an online gift certificate. Hopefully, since everything we're wearing is from there we may have a shot. If you get a chance, vote for us at americanapparel.net

We had a blast in LA. The Gogol Bordello show was absolutely amazing. We went to a Halloween party at a huge warehouse in downtown LA and saw some pretty creative costumes. However, one idiot girl decided to dress as Hitler which made me ill. Of course I let her know my feelings on her ridiculous costume. Her logic was "It's ok, I'm Jewish". My response was "no, you're a douche bag". Anyway, i got to see friends and family and get my Pinkberry fill for a while.

Outside there was a constant reminder of the fires that have swept through southern CA. The air quality was horrible. I posted the pictures above to show how awful the air was. Both photos were taken on the Death Trail at Runyon Canyon. The one on the left is from this weekend and on the right is from this past April. Really big difference.

East Infection

Tomorrow we head down to LA to visit my sister and catch Gogol Bordello. I'm so excited to hear some live gypsy punk! The singer of the band, who is Ukrainian, is a genius. He was also in the movie version of one of my favorite books Everything is Illuminated. Hopefully LA won't be burned to a crisp by the time we arrive tomorrow night.

Ready For Halloween?

My dogs have at least 10 costumes. Not because they need them, but because I can't help but to roll on the floor laughing watching them waddle around. It's been Halloween in our house for the last month.

George Carlin's 3 Free Jokes

Last Saturday we caught George Carlin at the Sac Civic Center. Carlin, who recently turned 70, is still on top of his game. He gave the audience "3 free jokes" to share with others, which have been posted below. The best part about the show was the Sign Language interpreter, a rotound middle-aged woman, that had to flip-off the audience every time Carlin dropped the F-bomb. Can you guess what she did each time he said "jerk off"?

All Hail to McQueen

Hot off the runway is the new limited edition collection for MAC. The line, designed by fashion icon Alexander McQueen, was used his New York Fashion Week show. I am sucker for fashion-inspired products. Especially for Lancome's Proenza Pink, used in Proenza Schouler spring 2007 runway presentation. This lippie which normally sells for around $20 is currently listed on Ebay for $85 (yikes!). Another must-have for my collection was Chanel's Black Satin nail polish.

After my reformer pilates class, I swung by ol' Nordys and did a bee-line to the MAC counter. The bright colors are beautiful, not what one would normally expect to see for a fall line.

Lipstick
Masque: Rosy dirty pink (satin)
Archetype: Sheery light gold (lustre)

Lipglass
Nothingness: White gold with yellow pearl (frost)
White Magic: Soft baby pink with white pearl (frost)

Eyeshadow
Pagan: Yellow lime green with yellow pearl (satin)
Haunting: Seafoam green (satin)
Nile: Soft royal blue with white pearl (satin)

Paint Pot
Pharaoh: Creamy yellow green (cream)
Otherworldly: Midtone sea blue (cream)
Electro Sky: Royal intense blue (cream)

Mineralize Skinfinish
New Vegas: Fleshy golden beige with bronze pearl

Eye Pencil
Jealous: Black with green pearl
Black Karat: Black with gold pearl
Feline: Rich black (frost)

Eye Brows
Velvetone: Film noir black

20 Lash: half lash

I'm obsessed with the Paint Pots at the moment. They can be applied lightly for a sheer wash or heavy-handed for a more opaque look. Pharaoh and Otherworldly were my favorites in the collection. The New Vegas Skinfinish gave my cheeks a radiant gold glow without looking overdone. Next on my wanted list is the spring 2008 installment of Lancome's Pout-a-Porter collection: Thakoon Lipstick.

Why I chose to start off my new blog with this goody, i don't know. It blows my mind how "celebrities" these days throw their lives down the toilet by acting like complete assholes. Case in point: Bobby Brown. For those of you who don't know, Mr. Brown, according to his attorney, went to 2 hospitals in the Los Angeles area complaining of severe chest pain. Why two? He later issued a statement claiming he went to the hospital for a check-up. Hmmm....sounds like a bunch of crapola to me. Who goes to a hospital ER for a check-up, really? The answer---someone on crack.
